Caroni 1998 24 Year Old Flower Series No.1 “Chaconia” is a rare single cask rum from the closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad, bottled by Distilia as the inaugural release in their Flower Series. Distilled in 1998 and aged for twenty four years, it was drawn from cask number four and bottled in 2022 at natural cask strength of 60.2 percent, with only 139 bottles produced, of which this is bottle 85. The rum shows the heavy Caroni style in full voice, opening with tar, dark molasses and leather before unfolding into dried tropical fruit, cocoa, polished oak and a deep earthy finish. The name Chaconia refers to Trinidad’s national flower and anchors the release in its place of origin, while the single cask provenance and tiny outturn mark it as a distinctive and sought after expression that reflects both Caroni’s intensity and Distilia’s curatorial eye.
