The Nikka Yoichi & Miyagikyo Rum Wood Finish 2017 is a limited release that brought together Japan’s two iconic distilleries in a unique experiment with Caribbean influence. For this edition, select malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo were given a secondary maturation in rum casks, imparting a gentle sweetness and tropical character that beautifully complements the distilleries’ distinct styles. Bottled at 46 percent and released in 2017, only 3,500 sets of two 70cl bottles were produced, making it a highly collectible release. The Yoichi shows a balance of peat and maritime notes lifted by hints of molasses and ripe fruit, while the Miyagikyo offers soft orchard fruits enriched by honeyed sweetness and exotic spice from the rum wood. Together, they form a remarkable set that highlights Nikka’s innovative spirit and its ability to marry tradition with creative cask finishing.
